    For those who read Dutch (itself a study in the perception
    of authenticity), this review by Roy Van Dolm in their Financial Times
    equivalent. A couple snippets translated (unofficially) by a friend in the
    Netherlands:

    “A worthy successor of ‘The Experience Economy’”
    “Excellent & clearly written”
    “A must read for everybody involved in marketing, communication and consumer behavior”
    “Decision makers within the education and government environment should also read this, because the book is about how to fascinate/interest people”

    As Pine & Gilmore write is this lengthy article for Strategy+Business, the fundamental problem with advertising: It’s a phoniness-generating machine.  What companies need, therefore, is a new approach to demand creation that actually enables — make that forces — a company to be what it says it is. To borrow the phrase architect Jon Jerde made famous, that discipline is placemaking.
